Just a Bit of Random Chatter All About What I've Been Doing Lately

Okay.  So I have a problem with overthinking my posts.  I have so many ideas in my head but I don't make much progress on them because I keep trying to make them into some kind of polished, major work of writing.  As if I'm writing a top-notch essay for college or something, instead of just a simple conglomeration of my thoughts.

So, throwing aside--for the time being--the four posts which are currently languishing in my drafts, I'm simply going to ramble on about the things I've been doing lately.  Such facts may prove of very little interest to anyone but myself, but whatever.  Here goes nothing.

Oh!  Just one more thing before the nothing.  This is a very random post, so it will be complete with random pictures and all that.  And I'm going to try not to worry about it all making sense...because that will take me too long.  Sometimes nonsense is a necessity.

 I've been enjoying...

1.  Spending time with my adorable little nephew, who slept over at our house for the first time this past weekend while my brother and his wife were away.  I got to hold him at our church dinner, and feed him off of my own plate, and this just thrilled me to no end!  (I was born to be a mother!  I just know I was!)

2.  Staying up late at night talking and watching movies with my family.

I have not been enjoying...

1. The fact that late nights don't mix too well with early mornings.  I've been finding it extremely difficult to get out of bed these days.  And cold weather, which makes one's bed so comfortable to curl up in, doesn't help either.

I've been playing...

1. The piano.  As usual.  It's my go-to when I'm feeling out of sorts, or when I'm feeling extra full of joyful, pent-up emotions.  I'm so thankful my mom had me learn an instrument when I was younger, because I don't know what I would do without it now.

2. Pool.  We inherited my grandfather's pool table this year and it has been in high demand.  It used to be more of a boys' game, but I've found that I enjoy hitting the balls around, too.  It's another means of releasing pent up emotions, ya know?  Boy, but I can really slam those balls around when I'm in the proper mood.

I've been reading...

1.  Too many depressing news articles which make me want to go and shake some sense into the entire population of our country--and particularly into the members of our crazy government.

2.  Eve's Daughters.  This is an excellent book by Lynn Austin which Naomi recommended in a review on her blog.  I really enjoyed this book and I heartily recommend it likewise.

I've been laughing at...

1.  The cute antics of my nephew.  How can you not laugh when he's helping his daddy put the eggs into the egg carton and sticks his little thumb right through one?  Poor baby.  He was so taken by surprise.  The eggs had never played such a trick on him before!

2.  Old articles written by me and my siblings for our family newspaper.  I was reading over some of these with two of my brothers the other night and we were laughing our heads off.  (That's a rather formidable image, isn't it?)

3.  My pitiful pool playing skills.  My adage is: Close your eyes, hit, and hope for the best.  Only I don't close my eyes, because I'm not THAT silly.  (Really though.)

4.  Loves Unfolding Dream.  Don't get me started!  That movie was SO painful.  And I laughed in derision the whole way through it.

I've been dreaming about...

1.  The stories in my head and thinking about getting them down on paper.  (Thinking about it.)  Every time I ride in the car and the music begins to play...oh!  anything is possible!  But when I sit down in front of my computer?  Forget it.  Dreams can wait until another day!

2.  Becoming a wife and mother.  This is a nice thought.  A very nice thought.  The hope of it's realization is pretty much nil at this point, but hey!  It's a dream!  I can at least have my dreams, can't I?  (Haha!)

I've been watching...

A lot of movies.  Including Persuasion (1995), which I really enjoyed; and Ivanhoe, which we just finished watching for my brother's fourteenth birthday.  (It's sort of a fourteenth birthday tradition.)  Also I've seen quite a few Danny Kaye films lately which aren't top-notch according to my standards, but which are still quite entertaining.

And...

...because this is a  very random post...

I thought I'd share with you a little random snippet from Winnie the Pooh.  Just because.  I thought it was funny...and you might to.  (Or you might not, but whatever.)  It's actually the Contradiction for The House at Pooh Corner (which is the second Winnie the Pooh book...but you probably didn't care about that.)  Anyway...

Contradiction

An Introduction is to introduce people, but Christopher Robin and his friends, who have already been introduced to you, are now going to say Good-bye.  So this is the opposite.  When we asked Pooh what the opposite of an Introduction was, he said "The what of the what?" which didn't help us as much as we had hoped, but luckily Owl kept his head and told us that the opposite of an Introduction, my dear Pooh, was a Contradiction; and, as he is very good at long words, I am sure that that's what it is.
~The House at Pooh Corner, A.A. Milne

I just thought it was funny.  That's all.

And while we're on the subject of funny.  I wrote this little rhyme the other day.  It just kind of came to me.  An inspiration of the moment you might say.  Do you want to hear it?  (Well, I can't wait for your answer so I guess you're going to hear it whether you want to or not.)  Here it is:

I don't know what to write,
I don't know what to write,
That's why I'm sitting here,
Writing nothing.

If the words would just unite,
My thoughts could then take flight,
But they won't and so I sit,
Doing nothing.

Okay!  So I'm not a poet.  And now you know it!  (Haha!)  But hey, give me credit.  At least the words rhymed!

Now I'm going to publish this post and feel very proud of myself for publishing two posts in one day!  And then the pride is going to give way to embarrassment and I'm going to go hide my head in the sand in shame that I've just made such a ridiculous fool of myself.  :D  (Oh, dear!  But I haven't got any sand!)

Well, good-bye, good people!  Cheerio, and all that!

(And as Tigger would say, "T.T.F.N.!  Ta, ta for now!")

  1. I have to hurry this, but I wanted to comment quickly. It's so cute watching little kids, YES! My cousin just announced she's going to have a baby and I'm over the moon!! Oh, I love playing pool! (Well, I call it billiards but it doesn't matter.) It's so much fun. :D I dream about becoming a mother too. And I dream about stories also and have the exact same trouble - I will think up marvellous stuff, and when I go to write it down, I've either forgotten or it doesn't sound half as good as when I thought of it. :P
Haha, don't worry I laughed at the Winnie the Pooh part. Winnie the Pooh is so funny, and adults can get just as much out of it as little kids. ;D 'Tis rather unbeatable, I must say.
Haha, and your little rhyme is rather funny. I give you credit. ;D
Don't hide in shame. I'd be the same as you if I had a blog - but I enjoyed your post, so there. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. ;D

    1. Oh, that's so exciting that your cousin is going to have a baby! I love babies! They're just wonderful!
You play pool, too? How fun! We call it billiards sometimes, but mostly we refer to the game as pool. Not sure how it got that name. We use the word billiards when we're feeling especially "dignified" and "proper", you know? :)
Yes! That's exactly how it is! The words sound so wonderful in my head, but when I go to write them down...grrrr...I can't remember them! Or they just sound extremely lame. I'm so glad you can relate to that!
So true! Some of the best children's books are those that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Not like a lot of the children's books being written nowadays.
      Haha! Thanks. ;D
"Stick that in your pipe and smoke it." Oh, Miss Meg, I loved that you said that! It made me laugh! Yes, give me a talking to! I'm much too easily embarrassed, and I need to get over it! I'm glad you enjoyed reading this post! That is so encouraging!

      T.T.F.N.! :D

  2. I loved this post, Miss March. I DO sound like you were born to be a mother - I dream of getting married, too - I hope you find a lovely man one day, and get your dream of being a mother being fulfilled! :-D

I'm so glad you enjoyed Eve's Daughters! I love hearing that people listen to my recommendations. :-D

I love that little poem! I feel like that SO often. :-/

    1. Thank you, Naomi! I'm glad it wasn't a total flop! Haha!

Oh, and I hope you find a lovely man someday, too! :)

I really did enjoy Eve's Daughters! Thank you, again, for recommending it. My mom is reading it now and liking it very much!

Really? :) Well, then I'm glad I included it! It's so neat to be surrounded by girls who "understand" all those writing struggles!

Thank you for your comment, Naomi!

  3. Ha, I COMPLETELY understand. About trying to make every single post a major work of writing. I'm often much too stiff about my own writing. Not half so bad as I used to be when I first started blogging, though -- over the years I've become more comfortable with just letting my thoughts pour out naturally. So don't stress about it -- it will get easier. ;-D

I've got Eve's Daughters on hold from the library!!! MUST READ IT. I'm glad you liked it! :-)

Love's Unfolding Dream...is that the fifth one? In which case YES it is rather painful. I LOVE the first movie in that series (although I still make fun of it, tee-hee) but they only go downhill from there. Still, my sisters and I enjoy watching them once in a while, if only to amuse ourselves to no end by picking them apart! We're terrible.

I personally think your little poem is brilliant. :-D

    1. Thanks, Emma! You girls are so encouraging, I don't know how I ever manage to get stressed over my writing...but somehow I just do. Thanks for understanding. And for letting me know that it gets easier. :) I guess I'll just have to keep plugging away.

Love's Unfolding Dream is actually the sixth movie. It's about Belinda when she's grown up, and how she wants to go to college to become a doctor. The fifth one is where Missie adopts Belinda. I haven't seen that one in a while. Yeah, my mom and sisters and I have a tradition of watching those movies whenever we want to have a special "girl's night." However, in recent times, I haven't been able to enjoy them as much because the acting is so poor (in my opinion). I remembered liking the sixth one, so it took me by surprise how awful it was this time! Haha! Yes! They're wonderful movies for picking apart! If you're terrible, I'm terrible, because picking apart movies is one of my favorite things to do! :D

      Seriously? Aww! :)

Thank you so much for your comment, Emma!

    2. Oh yes, the sixth movie. Yup. I've seen that one...gosh, probably five times. The acting is pretty bad, you're right. ;-P But still it's so fun! Nowadays when we watch those movies I tend to keep up a running commentary, talking to the characters, telling them what to do and what to say. I think you understand! :-D

    3. Haha! TOTALLY, understand! There are just certain movies which simply do not ALLOW me to keep my mouth shut! :D Heehee.

    4. Hello again! Just popping in to say that I 'pecked' you for a tag...you'll see what I mean. :-) Play if you want to! http://allthingsbonnyandbeautiful.blogspot.com/2015/10/memory-nest.html

    5. Thanks, Emma! This looks like fun! I love being tagged...or 'pecked,' rather. ;)

  4. Oh, I know EXACTLY what you mean about holding a little child....I got to sort of babysit a 6 month or so baby with my mom once and I got to hold her and feed her with a bottle.....I just suddenly felt so protective of her...and..and...I just felt like she was "mine." heehee

Aahh, yes. The getting up early problem. I won't tell you the shameful time I rolled out of bed this morning.

Anything past the...mmm..3rd Loves Comes Softly movie is just pretty darn terrible, in my opinion. Unfortunately.

Ooh, you liked Persuasion '95? It was the first one I saw and I love it. Although I do like the '07 version quite a lot, too.

Heehee, the Pooh excerpt was so cute, and so is your poem! Hahaha. Very clever, indeed. :)

Bravo on two posts in one day, my dear!

    1. Natalie, I'm SO sorry it has taken me this long to respond to your comment. I was NOT ignoring you, I just ran out of time on Friday, and then Saturday night after work I tried to respond but was too tired to think straight. On top of that, we left Sunday morning for my uncle's house and did not get home until late yesterday evening, so...yeah...that's my excuse for my silence.

Thank you for commenting, dear. I love getting your comments. :)

Oh, Natalie, why did you have to say that? Now you've made me curious. What WAS the shameful time at which you rolled out of bed on Friday morning? You can't just drop hints like that and then leave me in suspense! (Haha! Just kidding.) :D

Oh, yes I really do think the Love Comes Softly movies get progressively worse. They're fun to watch sometimes when you just want something light and airy, but oh! The acting is pretty awful!

Yes, I really liked it. It had the right "feel" for a Jane Austen movie (if you know what I mean) and I really liked the casting of the characters...most of them anyway. Captain Wentworth was not at all how I had imagined him, and I was actually having a hard time imagining that actor playing a hero because I've only ever seen him as a bad guy, but he really did an excellent job! I liked him! (Haha! When he asks Anne if her family is in health! That made us laugh because it was so much like Mr. Darcy.)

Aww, thanks. I don't really do poetry, but every now and then I get little inspirations. VERY little. ;)

Thank you! It was rather fun! I felt like a REAL blogger with all the comments that came in, in the space of a day! Haha! ;)

    2. Oh you don't have to apologize! I don't mind in the slightest. I completely understand how life takes over sometimes. ;)

Haha, well, I can't quite remember the time now but it was probably around 9:30...or perhaps 10? -cough- I guess I may as well be honest.

May I assume the other role you saw Cap. Wentworth in was Amazing Grace? ;) We saw Persuasion BEFORE AG, so it was funny when we watched it. "Oh no!! Captain Wentworth! You're bad guy!"

YES, I am reminded of the Darcy seen too!! How funny!

Isn't it so much fun writing a new post and then getting a flurry of comments? It's like a slight version of your birthday or something!

    3. 9:30...or 10:00? Wow, Natalie! I would pretend to be very shocked and appalled except that then I would have to be shocked and appalled at myself...which would be very uncomfortable. Haha! I will admit to you, that this summer I slept in till 9:30 every single Friday morning. ;) I get up a little earlier now on most Fridays, but 9:30 is still a possibility some weeks...you know, when I'm extra especially tired. :)

You may, indeed. Amazing Grace is definitely one of the movies I was thinking of. Also Ivanhoe. Captain Wentworth plays Bois Guilbert (however you spell his name!) in the version we own.

Yes. Getting a lot of comments is so much fun. My only problem is finding time to respond to all of them...since, as you know, I take a long time deliberating over what I want to say! :D

    4. Oh good! So glad it's not just me. ;)

Ah yes, I understand! I sometimes put off replying to comments until I realize they're a week old and guilt jars me into action. haha

  5. I completely relate to overthinking blog posts or just writing in general, it can be almost painful to stare at a screen willing words to appear. But isn't it a satisfying feeling when once in a while it just flows?

It sounds like you had a blast watching your nephew, little children are soo cute. I just can't stop looking at them when I'm around them.
You play the piano too? It is such a great way to express emotions, and it helped me a lot when I went to school where there was no place for creativity.

It was fun to hear a little about your life. Random posts are the best!!

    1. Oh yes! It is a most satisfying feeling indeed! I'm so glad I have moments when the words flow easily, otherwise writing would be extremely discouraging!

I know. Little children are wonderful, especially when they're part of your own family. I miss having babies in the house (my youngest brother is seven already), but a nephew who lives fifteen minutes away is the next best thing! :)

Yes! Piano is definitely a way to express one's emotions. That's cool that you play, too!

Aww, thanks! And thank you for your comment! I enjoyed hearing from you! :)
