It's a Snail's Life

(Don't ask me how I come up with such crazy titles.)

Not that there isn't anything going on around here.  Or that life isn't as busy as ever.  Or that the days aren't going by at their typical breakneck speed.

No.

Life is busy.

Life is going by far too quickly.

The problem is, I'm not keeping pace with it.

I'm just slow, slow, slooooow...

I sit down to write a blog post.  I get two paragraphs in and my brain shuts off.  So I send it to the drafts where it joins the mighty throng of other unfinished posts (now amounting to over twenty...yikes!) and I begin to think I've lost my touch.  Where was that inspiration I was supposed to have gained during the month of August?  I feel as devoid of that necessary spark as I did back then.  (Or rather, devoid of the ability to bring that spark to realization.  I've got ideas.  Plenty of ideas.  I just don't know how to put any substance to them.)

My mind feels so lazy.  I feel so lazy.  There are so many things I should be doing, so many things I could be writing, and yet...*yawn*...all I want to do is close my eyes, take a nap, and forget that household chores and creative uses of the ABC's ever existed!  (I think perhaps I haven't been getting quite enough sleep lately?)  (Ha! That was a brainwave!  When--in the past couple of years--have I ever gotten enough sleep?)

So my thinking powers are currently traveling at the rate of four miles per hour...

and then I remember those emails which I have yet to respond to, and I cringe inwardly.  Not because I don't wish to write.  No!  I do!  I want to write to my friends!  (Especially so since I'm missing them very much right now.)  But I just can't.  Because, simply put, there are days when the merest thought of stringing words together is enough to make my head explode.   (Poor wittle head.)

So then I cry.  And I grump.  And I feel sorry for myself because I can't write.  And I slowly, slowly, sloooowly fall into a regular old pity party.  (Actually, not that slowly.  I'm experienced enough now that I'm able to get to that point right quick.)

But it doesn't matter how fast or how slow I get there.  It has got to stop!

Yes.

Because I cannot allow my writing to dictate my moods like this!  And I mustn't get all frustrated simply because I'm not getting things done as quickly as I would like.  And I must not allow myself to live within myself, forgetting to look about me and enjoy all the people who make my life the wonderful thing it is!

So now!

*Miss March walks away, feeling a good deal better for having delivered that much needed lecture to herself--and also feeling quite relieved that she managed to post something this week, even though it did turn out to be a mighty poor excuse for a post.*

The End.

P.S.  To my poor neglected friends: I am going to respond to your emails soon.  I am!

P.P.S.  To ALL my friends and readers:  How are you all doing?  How's school?  How's life?  Anything new and exciting going on with you lately?  PLEASE tell me about it!  'Cause I miss you.  And I'm in the mood to be chatty.  :D

P.P.P.S.  And, uh, sorry for dumping another of my "I CAN'T WRITE!" posts on you.  It really is very inconsiderate of me and I apologize.  (Thanks for putting up with me, though.  You all are so kind.)

P.P.P.P.S.  (I'm sure this isn't the proper way to do post scripts, but I'm on a roll here so...)  One last thing.  Have any of you ever read the Frog and Toad books?   Just curious.  ;)

Good-night, everyone!

  2. Halloooo Miss March! Life's dandy over in my neck of the woods...last time I checked that is ;) Glad to see your post pop up, but I must say I find even your "I can't write" posts pretty worth the read.
And yes, I loved the Frog and Toad books as a kid, so cute! I had the little cassette tapes to go along with them to help me when I was first learning to read. And I loved frogs. I had one as a pet actually. Take care! Tell us what you've been up to in your next post...like anything...I am curious to know tidbits. Take care,
    Lexi

    1. LEXI! I'm so glad to hear things are going well with you! I've missed you. :) (Speaking of which, I really need to get over to your blog soon. That's another of the things I haven't been keeping up with...)

Aww. Really? That's a relief. I was rather regretting that I'd even published this post, so it's a load off my mind to hear that you actually enjoyed reading it. Thank you for that. :)

Yes! Cute is the word. I still remember the first time my mom picked a Frog and Toad book out for me at the library. I felt like such a big kid, reading a book with chapters! Haha.

You had a pet frog? How cool! Did you name him?

Thank you so much for your sweet comment! It brightened my day. And, aww. You really want to know what I've been up to? *happy grin* I'll try and get a post written about that soon then. :) (Actually, I've been trying to write a life update post for days. That's one of the ones I keep getting stuck on. Maybe I'll have better luck next week...)

      Thanks for the encouragement, friend!

  3. YES!! Frog and Toad! The best! :D Especially love that part where Toad has his list of things to-do and the first thing he crosses off in the morning is “Wake Up” ;)

Oh yes, time is a-flying! MUCH too fast for comfort. So many things happening, so little time to tell ‘em, seems like. So yes, I COMPLETELY understand how you’re feeling!

    1. Haha! Yeah. Toad certainly understands how to do lists! ;D

Exactly! Slow down, time, slow down!! So glad you understand. :)

  4. Miss March!!! Here's the thing: I get excited whenever I see one of your posts on my dashboard, and I love reading it no matter what. This was no exception.

AND I RELAAATE. Right now I've been so busy with schoolwork that I hadn't written a blog post in...*goes to check* 12 days, and the post before that was just to announce that I got on Pinterest! My last real post before that was 3 1/2 weeks before yesterday's! So...yep, I know what you mean. Also, inspiration? Hah! What's that? I haven't had any for a while...it's frustrating.
Also, I think I'm going to come and read this post when I feel how you're feeling. Your self-lecture was quite what I need sometimes.

I read Frog and Toad! I used to love those. Haven't read them in YEARS but sometimes they pop up among my younger siblings. :)

As ALWAYS, I really enjoyed reading your post! Truly, your blog is aptly named. It's definitely a sunshiny corner. :)

    1. Oh, Rae! I feel bad because I know you girls have told me before that you like my posts, and yet I still continue to doubt it. And that's so wrong of me to do that. So I'm sorry, and I will seriously try and do better. But, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your kind words and encouragement. It means a lot. *hugs*

Oh, I'm so glad you could relate to this! That makes me feel that it wasn't a totally wasted post. (I guess even rants can be helpful sometimes. Heehee.) Oh dear yes. School. That certainly would take up a good deal of your time, and it's a very legitimate reason for not posting as often. Still I hope you can find time and "inspiration" (whatever THAT is...haha!) to post more soon, because your last post was SO good. :D

It seems everyone knows about Frog and Toad! This is cool!

Awwww. You're too kind. Thanks again, Rae. Your comment was a huge encouragement to me! :)

  5. Oh, I hope you can catch up with your sleep and find your energy again. ;) I know what you mean... sometimes I wonder if I have a problem with my body (such as iron deficiency) because I get SO tired frequently, even though I've had 8-9 hours sleep! I'm not sure what's going on... but anyways, I hope you can catch up on your sleep, then. ;)

In response to your last 3 post scripts...
I'm doing well, school is amazing because I'm currently on school holidays (ahaha... ahem), life is very busy, and nothing particularly new and exciting is up with me. I've been filled with inspirations every day and trying to keep on top of all my ideas is basically Mission Impossible, but it's still fun. :D I have two weeks of school holidays, and while there's heaps going on, I'm hoping to use all my extra time in using my inspiration for something other than daydreams. ;) My sisters played at a bush dance last weekend, and I danced every dance, so that was incredibly fun. (Must have been dancing for over 3 hours...) I also had a lot of boys ask me to dance, which was very sweet, especially since (1, they were all young adults or nearly so and (2, I'm so used to dancing with girls and having to do the male part myself. *sigh* Why is it I feel like there are way more girls than guys in Australia?! Haha... or else, not many guys like dancing. :P I've been reading a good deal lately, and was very proud of myself for finishing "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas (it had 900 pages and TINY writing) in just short of 2 months. :D *pats self on the back* That was my goal, and I actually MET. MY. GOAL. FOR. ONCE.

Well, even though this was an "I CAN'T WRITE!" post, I still liked reading it. :) Although yes, I think I would prefer to see you write with a bit more confidence and feel happy with what you're writing. :D Happiness rubs off, you know!

YES! I have read the Frog and Toad books! I grew up with them. :) (It's very interesting to read that other people have read them too, hehe!)

    1. Thanks, dear. I would say I hope so, too, except...well, I'm afraid (judging from past experience) that I'm not going to do much to accomplish that feat. It's just very difficult for me to get myself to bed when there are still people up who I could do something with. Wouldn't it be so cool if you could catch up on your sleep without actually sleeping? ;P

Oh yay! Happy holidays!! Hope you have a marvelous two weeks! :D What sort of things have you been getting inspiration for? Is it mostly writing related, or something completely different? I do hope you manage to get a lot of things done over the holidays.

The bush dance sounds like fun. I've never been to an actual dance before. (Why is it called a "bush" dance, by the way?) And you danced every dance? Wow. That must have been exhausting. Ohhh! How fun! I'm glad there was some boys that asked you to dance. Personally, I'd probably be rather terrified if a boy asked me to dance, but at the same time it would be kind of cool. :) I'm glad you had a good time.

You read the "The Count of Monte Cristo"? Well done! That is an extremely long book. I've never read it myself, but my dad read it to me and my siblings years ago, so I know the story. Did you like it? Congratulations on meeting your goal!! :D

Thank you. I really am going to try and do that. From now on I shall be "Miss March, the confident"...maybe, perhaps, we shall see...Haha! No, but seriously. Thank you for encouraging me to be confident in what I'm writing. I NEED to be challenged in this area!

Isn't it though? I love it when I find that other people are familiar with the books I've read, or movies I've watched. It's just fun!

Thank you for another lovely comment, Miss Meg! You're a real friend.

    2. Haha, catching up on sleep without actually sleeping is... kinda defeating the purpose. ;P

*bows* Well thank you! I hope I manage to get a lot of things done too... although unfortunately, I've gotten myself (well, I didn't GET it, my brothers GAVE it to me) a cold, so I'm less productive than I'd like cause my head's spinning at the moment. My inspiration is mostly for writing (stories/plays/poems) but also for drawing, singing, singing concert ideas, dancing, etc... yeah. Sometimes it's hard to explain, heh. :P

Oh, how sad! I hope you can go to a dance at some point!! (It's called a bush dance, because it's in the country, and 'bush' is kinda another name for the country. ;) And it's country themed - the dancing, music, outfits (jeans + checked shirt + boots kinda thing).) Haha, I wasn't actually tired! Believe me, once the adrenaline rush kicks in, you don't feel a thing... until the next day. ;) Well, it would have been awkward if I was by myself, but I was with a big group of people (mostly young adults, and also an older parent) and there was an equal amount of boys and girls in the group, so everyone got asked by a boy. ;) (That was just for the last part, though...) I danced with little 3 year old boys and I danced with 80 year old men (one of which was ssooo sweet - he was dancing with my Mum for one (you switch partners through some dances) and he escorted her back to her seat and everything! <3) so you have to be ready to dance with just about anyone, hehe. :D

Yes! I did it! *twirls happily* It was a VERY good book. :) I loved it! I knew the story beforehand which kinda helped (I've seen the movie lots) but the movie and the book are two different things - and I think the book is better. ;) It usually is!

Haha, "Miss March, the confident!" Kinda catchy. ;D Well, I hope you can challenge yourself and push forward.

Aww, thank you. I'd hate to be considered a fake friend, haha. ;)

    3. I know. But if it could be done it would be so convenient. ;P

WHAAAT? Your brothers gave you a cold?? That wasn't nice. That wasn't nice at all. Shame, shame, brothers! ;) Seriously, though, I hope you feel better soon. Colds can be nasty. :( Your list of inspirations sounds lovely! :D

Oh, right. "Bush," "country"...that makes sense. ;) True. Depending on the group you're with I guess that would cut down on the awkwardness a lot. I'm glad you had such a good time and didn't get too tired. (The 80 year old man sounds so sweet. I like it when men do gentlemanly things like that!)

Thanks for another lovely comment, Miss Meg!! :)

  6. Oh, you poor thing! I get the feeling - everytime I set time aside to write something, anything, I immediately gets writer's block and can get nothing productive done. And just the thought of all the posts that I need to write is enough to get me all stressed out!

I'm so glad that I'm not the only to feel that way (Not that I'm in any way happy you feel like this), and I nevet get bored with your posts no matter what they're about;)

So how's life with me? I normally hate getting that queestion, because I always end up going into default mode and answering: "Life's good" or "life's busy" and then forgetting actually telling about what I'm doing. And look, I'm doing it again....
August was mostly work, due to the fact that my colleagues also wanted vacation, and someone had to fill in. But now that I'm back to my usual work schedule I suddenly have a lot of free time,(not that I use it wisely or anything like that) and I have a thousand projetcs planned.
And now for the obligatory qounter question: "How's life with you?" (I'm not being polite, I really want to know:))

    1. Wow, Rose. You do understand, don't you? Yes! That's exactly how it is. I feel like I'm perpetually getting hit with writer's block, and it's so frustrating.

Can I echo that remark? 'Cause, yeah, it is VERY encouraging to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with these kinds of things, but at the same time I'm really sorry to hear that you've been dealing with it, too. :( 'Cause it's not fun, and I do hope it gets easier for you soon. These dry spells can't last forever, can they? I mean, one of these days inspiration has got to be our friend, right? (Aww. Thank you! I'm so glad my posts don't bore you. That is very encouraging to hear. And I mean, VERY.)

Muwahaha! Now that you mention it, I don't think I usually like that question either. It's just such a mind-blanking question--maybe because it's too general. Like when people ask me, "What's new in your life," I invariably answer, "oh nothing much. Same old thing." Haha.

I'm glad you've got some more free time now. :) It's nice to have time to use (wisely or not ;) Heehee). I hope you get a lot done on your various projects. :)

Thanks for asking...uh...uh...*going blank*...(what did we just say about this question?) Haha! Just kidding. Life is actually a bit crazy for me right now. I just got a new part time job, so my schedule is all mixed up and I feel more tired than usual. It's been good though, and will probably only get better as I get used to the new routine. :)

Thank you for your kind words, Rose. You're such a sweet person, and I'm so happy to count you as one of my friends. :)
