Sunshine Blogger Award

My friend Kate Marie tagged me for the Sunshine Blogger Award back in December.  I'm afraid my answers have been a long time coming but you know what they say, better late than never, right? (That's what they say.  I didn't say it.  Therefore I claim no responsibility if the saying proves false in this case.  You know.  Like if this turns out to be a post which was better never than ever.  Don't sue me over it, okay?)  (Honestly, I'm not sure that last bit made any sense.  *cough*)

Anyway, thank you, Kate, for all the delightful questions you came up with.  I had fun answering them.  And without further ado, let us begin...

1. If you had to choose one song to be your “anthem” what would it be?
How about the Scarecrow's song from the Wizard of Oz?   "If I only had a brain..."  I relate to that.  Heehee.  (Actually, I stole that brilliant idea from my sister.  She used to sing that about herself all the time.  There's a reason we are sisters.)

2. What is one book you will never read again and why?
That romance novel that made me cringe with the dullness and sappiness of it all.  Can't remember the title.

3. What is one book you reread over and over again and why?
Oh dear.  I used to read books over and over again, but these days I'm finding it hard to concentrate on books I'm familiar with, so I don't do near as much rereading as I used to do.  Books that I have read over and over again, though, are Pride and Prejudice and Little Women.  Why?  Why because!  They're so ridiculously good!!  :)

4. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Well, at the present moment there is a particular friend I very much wish to visit.  So though it may not sound like anything spectacular (nothing like traveling abroad or flying to the moon or anything like that) I must say if I could go anywhere I'd go to my friend's house.  (Because that's where I'd see her.   You know.  At her house.)  (Like that needed to be explained.)

5. Do you have a favorite quote and what is it?
I don't think there's any such thing as a favorite quote, but here's a good one for you.  Compliments of my oldest sister.  "Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow just as well."  (Or is that supposed to be "never do tomorrow what you can do today"?  Oh, whatever.  I like my sister's version better.)  (And if you think I'm in a silly, sarcastic mood right now, you're absolutely right.  Good observation.)

Here's a sensible quote to make up for the above silliness.

*sigh*  I love that.

6. If you could meet any historical figure – living or dead – who would you choose to meet?
Well.  This is probably going to sound very unoriginal but I'm going to go with Jane Austen.  Because  1) I love her books;  2) Judging from her sense of humor and my own I think we would have some very enjoyable conversations; and 3) I want her to tell me the endings to her two unfinished works.   A book without an ending does leave one hanging so.

7. What is the first book you read on your own?
Oh, dear.  I can't say for sure, but I do remember one of the first long chapter books I read.  (Long being relative, you understand.)  It was a Childhood of Famous Americans book about Louisa May Alcott.  And I can still remember how proud I felt at having finished it.

8. What is your fondest memory?
My goodness, Kate!  What a question.  I have far too many fond memories.  Let's knock off the "est" and just go with "fond."  I think I can manage that.

One very fond memory I have is of my brother (younger than me by about a year).  That time when he let me cry out my weariness and frustrations on his shoulder.  It was so very sweet of him and I felt so loved and protected.  Brothers really are some of the dearest people in the world.  :)

9. Who are your heroes?
My dad.  Definitely.  Also my brothers.  (Well, maybe not all of my brothers...the youngest ones being rather young as yet.  But well, give 'em time.  ;))

10. What character from literature are you most like?
Ooh.  Tough one.  I really don't know.  I like to think I'm a little like Elizabeth Bennett.  At any rate, I enjoy having a good laugh at the contradictions and inconsistencies of human nature.  On the other hand, though, I'm not nearly as comfortable and outgoing as Elizabeth, so I'm not sure I can really claim to be like her.   Sorry.  I can't think of anyone else.  I guess that's the best answer I've got.

11. What would you do if the Zombie Apocalypse happened tomorrow?
Do?  I would wake myself up, that's what I'd do.  ;P  (I must say, I've never believed in Zombies.  In fact, it has been my habit since childhood to scoff at all such things.  Don't ask me if that's wise or not.  It's just my way.  Heehee.)

Now you may all sigh with relief.  That's the last question and I am officially done talking.  (Seriously, though, I'm afraid I have a habit of being a bit long-winded.  Did you ever notice that?)  And now I think we can all agree heartily over that old saying, and declare that though the end of this post was a long time in coming it was most definitely better late than never.  Eh, what?

The questions:  (prepare for random)

1. What was the last book you read?
2. On a typical evening at home, what are you most often found doing -- reading a book, watching a movie, playing games with your siblings, twiddling your thumbs...what?
3. You have the choice of being an only child or having twenty siblings.  Which do you choose?
4. Do you prefer bike riding or walking?
5.  If you had to create your own family made up of characters from literature (or film) who would you choose to have as your father?  As your mother?  Choose a brother and a sister, too, just for the fun of it.  :)
6.  Did you ever receive money under your pillow after losing a tooth?
7.  What's your favorite color?
8. Would you rather wash dishes or iron clothes?

9. What is your opinion on zoos?  Interesting or boring?
10. Growing up, did you have a favorite doll? What was her name?

  1. I say, thanks for tagging me, old sport! I shall have fun with these ;) (And hopefully I can get them done soonish . . . )

Little Women is bae. Yes. Amen.

I sympathize with the whole wanting-to-go-to-a-friend's-house thing! *sigh* All the blogging buddies to meet and re-meet . . .

  2. I love this!
I have the same problem with rereading books. I haven't done it nearly as much as I used to.

I would say the same thing. For me, it's not really a "where I want to go" but "who I want to visit."

That quote! Haha. I have a friend who said I should take that as my motto. He had a cross between the two, though, "Never do today what you can do tomorrow." I procrastinate too often.
I LOVE that second quote too! :)

Yes, Jane Austen. Very sensible reasons, too.

Thanks for tagging me! I think I can make time for it today!

Isn't it sad though? All those old favorites begging to be read, but we can't settle ourselves down to reading them. :P

      Precisely. :)

Haha. It really is the best quote for us procrastinators. Why, it makes procrastinating sound like something official and important. Heehee. ;)
      I know! Isn't it lovely?

Thank you. Glad you think so. :)

Oh goody! I'm looking forward to reading your answers! :)

1.The first book of the Eragon series
    2.Reading a book
3)As much as I would love to say an only child... I like the chaos of siblings (only sometimes though :D) So twenty siblings.
    4.Walking
5.Mr. Bennet as a father, Anne Shirley as a mother(I know weird) Zachary Goode as a brother and Bex Baxter as a sister (Gallagher Girls series)
6.No, my parents always put it on my dresser.
    7.Sea green
    8.Wash dishes
9.I went to my first zoo last year and I was a little unimpressed. It was a great experience but I didn't really think it was fun.
10.Growing up I had a TON of Barbies so I can't pick a favorite out of those but I did have a baby doll I did everything with. Her name was Sally. So original of me. (being 6 and all that)

    1. Oh! And I'm SO glad you did, Lia!! This is such fun! :D

      2. An excellent activity to be employed in. I'm always meaning to read more in the evenings, but inevitably I always seem to fall back on movies. Haha.
      3. I'm with you on that one! I shouldn't want to live without siblings. :) By the way, do you have a lot of siblings?
      5. Ooooh! I LOVE your answer for this one! MR BENNET!! YEEES. He'd make a very nice father indeed. And Anne Shirley. (Haha. Do you mean weird to have Anne Shirley as a mother, or weird thinking of her and Mr. Bennet being married? Haha. Because I find that second thought quite hilarious!!) Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Zachary Goode and Bex Baxter. :( I guess I need some educating. ;)
      7. Oh! That sounds like a lovely color indeed. Even just the name of it is lovely. :)
      9. Dear me. I perfectly comprehend your feelings. Zoos are a neat idea, but I confess I've never found them particularly fun. ;)
      10. Haha. Love it! :D

Thanks for answering the questions, Lia! Your answers were so much fun to read! :)

    2. I have 5 other siblings. I am number 4. Right in the middle.
I meant Mr. Bennet and Anne Shirley being married is weird :D
Zachary Goode and Bex Baxter are from the series Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter. You should check it out, it's really good.

  9. Oh, that was fun to read! :D

Aww, your memory about crying on your brother's shoulder... that's ssooo precious. <3

And for some reason, I feel like answering these questions myself. ;) (Not that I REALLY have time - but hush, I'll just do them quickly. :P)

    1. What was the last book you read?
"Nicholas Nickleby" by Charles Dickens. It was a good book, although not his best work.

    2. On a typical evening at home, what are you most often found doing -- reading a book, watching a movie, playing games with your siblings, twiddling your thumbs...what?
Oh, twiddling my thumbs, definitely. I have such an obsession with doing that. It's like, my hobby. (No but really, probably writing in my journal.)

    3. You have the choice of being an only child or having twenty siblings. Which do you choose?
I would hate being an only child. :P I've gone places where it was just me and my parents and I decided it would be awful. I need PEOPLE! 20 siblings all the way!

    4. Do you prefer bike riding or walking?
Bike riding! I do enjoy walking too, though.

    5. If you had to create your own family made up of characters from literature (or film) who would you choose to have as your father? As your mother? Choose a brother and a sister, too, just for the fun of it. :)
My father would be the Dad off the movie Swiss Family Robinson, and I'd pick the mother too if it wasn't boring, but just to be different, I'd choose Maria von Trapp (from the movie, just so I can say she's 'fictional' :P). I'd have Peter Pevensie for a brother and Emma Woodhouse for a sister.

    6. Did you ever receive money under your pillow after losing a tooth?
No, not under my PILLOW. I've never had anything under my pillow (except my head, 'cause sometimes it's more fun to sleep under the pillow than on top of it :P). But I did get money for my baby teeth under a little jar where my mother would put the tooth.

    7. What's your favorite color?
It's a cross between blue and aqua/turquoise... I think possibly the latter. With purple and white in a close second.

    8. Would you rather wash dishes or iron clothes?
Ehh... iron clothes. Cause then you can watch a movie while doing it. :P (The pro for washing dishes means you can sing loudly while you clatter the dishes, but I do that all the time anyway, so I'll opt for the movie.)

    9. What is your opinion on zoos? Interesting or boring?
I haven't been to one in ever so long! Interesting, I guess. It's more fun when you can interact with them, though - feed the animals and pat them etc.

    10. Growing up, did you have a favorite doll? What was her name?
My baby doll was my favourite (bigger than any normal sized baby, haha). Her eyelids opened and shut if you tilted her and she had more than one outfit and her name was Zoe, because my elder sister's was called Chloe, and I always loved rhyming names. I made my younger sister call her baby Joey, so they'd all rhyme, haha. :P

Anyways, best be off! Loved reading your answers, Miss March!

      Yaysies! :D (Time? What's time? ;))

      1. (Wait! You finished it already? I didn't even get a chance to comment on that in your last email!) I like Nicholas Nickleby a lot, but I think David Copperfield might be my favorite.

      2. Hahaha. LOVE THIS ANSWER! :D "It's like, my hobby." *chuckle* (Journal writing sounds like a more productive hobby, though. ;))

      3. I agree!! Being an only child would be SO sad. :(

      5. Ohhh! Nice choices all around! I think the dad from Swiss Family Robinson would make a really nice father. :) And Emma as a sister! Never a dull moment, right? ;)

      6. Heehee. I never thought of sleeping under my pillow before. Maybe I should try it sometime. ;)

      7. Ohh! That sounds like a delicious color!

      8. Hold it! No one ever told me you could watch movies while you ironed clothes! I've been deprived!! (Haha.)

      9. Good point. I'm sure that would make it a whole lot more interesting. (Provided, of course, that one liked petting animals, which I don't particularly. It makes me feel dirty. Heehee. ;))

      10. Awwwww. That is adorable!! Zoe, Chloe, and Joey. Rhyming names are such fun! Was Joey a boy or a girl? ;)

Thanks! I enjoyed reading your answers very much, too! :D And thank you so much for taking the time to do this!

    10. That's awesome! Lizy is so vivacious and witty, I just adore her! We have a few similarities as well. :)

    11. Ha!

Also I would love to have twenty siblings and I loved dolls as a child. My favorite was an African American doll I was persuaded was a boy (it was NOT) and therefore named Spencer. :)

    1. 1. Well, thanks!! *hugs you back*

      2. Haha. Well, actually that was sort of a jab at romance novels in general. Though there was one book that kept coming to my mind as being one of the dullest romance novels I'd ever read. And yes. I've totally forgotten the title of that one. ;P

      6. Thanks! :)

Aww. Spencer. That's too cute. :) It's actually rather rare to find a boy baby doll, isn't it? I know most girls are into girly things, but you'd think they'd want some boy babies as well as girl babies. I mean, that's realistic! ;)

Thanks so much for your comment, dear...and for tagging me!! It was loads of fun! :D

    2. Gotcha. :) ...But you're writiung one, yes???

True, I've never seen a male baby doll. I was convinced Spencer was a boy. Even though he wore PINK overalls... Ahem. :)

      Delete
    3. Haha. Yeah, I guess I am. I'm just trying to write one with all the sappiness and clichés removed. Heehee. Because I love romance, but a lot of the modern Christian romances annoy me because they're so predictable and cheesy. You know what I mean?

Pink overalls weren't even enough to convince you? Haha. That's too funny. ;)

    4. I absolutely understand (and implicitly believe in your ability to do so!). As you might remember, I've gotten pretty fed up with how shallow contemporary romance is as well. :)

Oh, no! To be honest, I still think of him as a boy??? Like even though I see the pink overalls and the flowers and everything, it LOOKS like a boy-doll to me now...

      Delete
    5. Aww, well thanks. :) And yes, I certainly do remember. You wrote an excellent post about it one time. :)

Haha. That's hilarious. :) Maybe he really was a boy all along, though, and he just didn't get the memo that pink was a girl's color?? I'm sure it hasn't always been a girl's color. Maybe he's just a little behind the times. Heehee. ;P

Ooh yes, Pride and Prejudice and Little Women are ALWAYS good ones to re-read. :)

I hope you can visit your friend soon! That sounds like SO much fun. I actually have hopes of having a friend visit me this summer (June, in fact) and am so-over-the-moon excited for it. So yeah. I can relate to your excitement. :P

Your sister's quote made me laugh aloud!! My my, such good advice. ;)
Ooh, I love that serious quote, too, though. *pins it*

Awwwwwww. Your story about your brother is SO sweet. This is why my heroine's always have brothers. They're just so awesome. <3
