Jack Thornton goes to our church

All right, so maybe it isn't the real Jack Thornton who goes to our church, maybe it's just someone who looks like him, but I liked the above title because it was more exciting.  Don't you think?  (Sorry if I got all you fans of When Calls the Heart excited for nothing.  Ahem...actually, to be honest, that was sort of my intention in choosing that title.  *sheepish grin*  I wanted to get you excited for nothing.  By the way, did it work?  No? Oh, bother.  That lessons the triumph of my joke quite considerably.)

Anyway, to get back to my story...there's this guy at our church who really looks like Jack.  I'm not kidding.  I've never actually met him, but he plays on the worship team so I've had time to observe him, and one Sunday I just couldn't help leaning over to my sister and saying, "Doesn't he look like Jack?"  And she answered back, "Yes, he does!"  So it was official.

After this  I got to thinking about all the other people we've come across who look like characters in movies--and there have been quite a few, believe me.  In fact, at almost every church we attend we inevitably run into someone who looks like a character from a movie.   So, just for fun, I thought I'd share a few examples with you.

Let's start with the last church we attended.  There we had Lord Dundas from Amazing Grace (you might also know him as Mr. Meagles from Little Dorrit), William Wilberforce, and Frodo Baggins!  Lord Dundas attended the church with his wife, and they were both very nice.  They would often give us eggs from their chickens.  As to William Wilberforce, he came with his wife and four kids, and was very good at playing baseball.  (Bet you never knew William Wilberforce could play baseball!  Haha!)

And then Frodo.  He didn't actually attend our congregation, he attended the larger one which ours was an offshoot of, so we didn't see him very often.  But when we did see him, we were all in profound agreement.  He looked very much like Frodo.   Big blue eyes and everything...except well, his hair was more trim, not so long and curly, but that was a minor detail.

Going further back to the church we attended before that one...

Here we had Danny Kaye as our pastor, only he was a bit older than in this picture and not quite as goofy as Danny Kaye is in the movies.  (Scratch that.  Not nearly as goofy as Danny Kaye is in the movies.  ;))

We also had Messala (from Ben-Hur).  He played on the worship team.  Don't ask me what he was doing in such a position, all I know is the singing time was very nerve-wracking, as we were all terribly afraid for our lives.  (Haha.  Just kidding.  ;))  Actually, once we'd seen him closer up, and more often, we agreed that he didn't look nearly as much like Messala as we had originally thought.  I think it was mostly his dark, curly hair that caused us to make the connection.

Of course, it's not only at church that we see these familiar faces, because honestly you can run into movie characters anywhere.  For example, just the other month my mom and sisters and I were having lunch at a restaurant when Pancks walked in.

Yes!  Pancks himself!  (Or maybe it was his younger brother...does he have a younger brother?)  Anyway, there he was with his wife, his little girl, and his teeny tiny little baby.  And oh!  It was so cute.  Pancks with a family?!  Adorable

Well, that's about all I've got for today.  I hope you enjoyed this little "what's-it" of a post.  And as a bonus, and just so you all know that I've got an adorably cute nephew, I'm telling you now that he looks quite a bit like this little chap here:

Cute, right?

Have you ever come across someone who reminds you of a character in a movie?
Which characters have you "met"?

So long, everyone!  I hope you're all having a wonderful day!  :)

  1. Emma and I read this post together, and we think it's really fun. It's true though; I so often meet people that look like these characters - there's a guy at Church back home who looks like Mr Carson, and I know many other people that remind me of movie characters and actors/actresses. :-)

    1. Thanks, Naomi. I'm glad you two enjoyed this! :D

Oh! And would that be Mr. Carson from Downton Abbey or a different Mr. Carson? Just curious. It's so much fun spotting familiar faces, isn't it? :)

  2. This was a super fun post, Miss March!! SUCH a great idea!! You have a Jack at your church?! Well, that's nice. Hehehe. And you had Danny Kaye as a pastor? Ha! That's awesome...too bad he wasn't quite as goofy. You even placed your nephew! CUTE!!

I'm going to have to start making a list because while I know I have seen people that remind me of actors--I can't name who I've seen. Bummer. Although, as I've been sitting here writing this I have thought of two instances, at least. I remember a few years ago I thought one of the umpires at my brother's ballgame looked like Merlin from the TV show Merlin. I've actually never watched Merlin but I knew what he looked like. His ears stuck out and everything. Haha. (Sorry, that was probably rude...) And I hate to admit this but recently a girl I know married Mr. Cox--as in, from Wives and Daughters. I felt so guilty for finally placing who I thought he looked like. Hahaha. But really, I was spot on. Yes, very naughty of me indeed!!

Ohhhh, this post was such fun! I hope you are having a wonderful day as well!!!

    1. Yay! I'm glad you found it entertaining! :D

Oooh! Mr. Cox...who's Mr. Cox? I can't picture him. :/

Haha. I know. Sometimes the person we think someone looks like is not altogether complimentary. Oops. :P

I'm glad you found this to be a fun post, Cordy! And thank you for your super fun comment!!! My day's been pretty good so far, and it only got better when I saw your comment on my dashboard! :D

    2. Mr. Cox, he's the creepy suitor that likes Molly at the beginning of the story but when he comes back for Molly he falls for Cynthia. :P He has really sickly pale skin and red hair in the movie...I don't know if that helped you or not...

Uh-huh. I know what you mean. It's most unfortunate.

Yeah!! I love making someone's day better. Now it's a new day so I can wish you another wonderful day!! :D

    3. Oh! That guy! I still can't remember what he looks like because I only watched the movie once, but I know who you're talking about now. (He's the one who wrote Molly the letter which Dr. Gibson intercepted, right?) Thanks for refreshing my memory! :)

      Haha. So true. ;)

Thanks!! And same to you, my friend!

  3. Ahh! I love this post idea!! It's so true, one runs into "all kinds" when one is out and about, but I'd never thought of making a post out of it, let alone having it turn out so well :P Anyway, again, loved this!

  4. "Here we had Danny Kaye as our pastor," Ah! That is too funny, I laughed aloud on this one! Fun stuff man, fun stuff! You are awesome Miss March, keep it up girl ;)

  5. Well, I didn't think you actually meant that Jack Thornton went to your church, but the title of your post did IMMEDIATELY arrest my attention. ;) Hmm...do you know if "Jack" is married or not? :P

I loved the rest of your list! It is so funny when you see someone who looks like a character from a movie. Once I saw a girl in a restaurant who looked SO much like Esther from Bleak House. And....I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

ps. My mom and I are watching season 3 of WCTH! It's not too terribly soap-opera-y...yet. I hope it resembles season 1 more than season 2. :P

    1. Oh, too bad. I SO wanted to trick someone. :( Haha. Well, at least it arrested your attention. ;) Hmm...good question. I really don't know. (Okay, I just googled him and according to the Wikipedia page--which I know isn't always accurate, but I like checking things on there anyway--it doesn't look like he's married. Anyway, it makes no mention of it.)

I know, it's so funny! You look across the room and you're like "there's so-and-so! Right here! In real life!" Haha. ;) Of course you know it's not really them, but it's still fun.

Oh! You ARE? How are you watching it? We've been wanting to see it but I don't where to get it. I think our library might have a few of the first episodes on DVD, but I don't know if the whole season is available yet or not. I'm glad to hear it isn't terribly soap-opera-y so far, and I hope it stays that way!! How many episodes have you seen?

    2. *clears throat* Okay, so my sister just pointed out to me that when you asked if "Jack" was married, you were most likely referring to the "Jack" at our church...not the actor who plays Jack in the movie. Haha! Boy, am I silly. And it was so obvious, too. I can't believe I misunderstood you. (Honestly, Natalie, the slowness of my brain surprises me sometimes. It really does. :P) So, yeah, to answer your question in regards to the "Jack" at our church, no, he's not married--not so far as I know, anyway. But then as I said, I've never met him, so I really know next to nothing about him. ;)

    3. Heehee. Yes. Your sister was indeed righ--I was referring to "Jack" at your church, not the actor. ;) But oh, don't worry about. That's happened to me many times, too. And then I go back and re-read something and go, "OH! Wait...they meant THAT..." And it's always so obvious. :D

Yes!! We got it through our library. I'm able to request books and movies from other libraries in my state, and it's SUCH a helpful thing. Whenever I'm looking for something my county doesn't have it, I search for it on their "state" catalog and chances are I usually find what I'm looking for. You should check with your library--maybe they have something similar!

We've watched 3 dvds so far. I'm not sure how many are left, but I need to look it up and request the next ones. :)

And yes! I definitely am enjoying this season a lot more than I thought. Now that Charles is out of the mix (haha), the stories are more centered on the town and the children. It's not as good as season 1 (of course) but still quite enjoyable. :)

    4. Haha. Thanks, Natalie. ;)

I have checked at our library, actually, but it looks like they only have the first few episodes. Ah well. I suppose I shall simply have to practice patience, and wait until our library gets the whole thing. :/

Oh, yes. We can certainly do very well without Charles. ;) I'm glad the show has gotten its focus back to the town and the children, instead of the big city and all that stuff. (Oooh!! I want to watch it! :))

    5. Aww, that's too bad. :( I can't wait till you can see it and we can talk about it!

  6. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I shall have to start looking around and seeing who's around here!!

  7. This was quite entertaining! My sister and I do this all the time. We'll see someone, or meet someone, and we'll turn and whisper to each other, "Who does he/she look like?" and then we'll puzzle over it until we either figure it out or give up. :) I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head, but there are a couple people that just look SO MUCH like an actor/actress that I think of that every time I see them.
(By the way, I'm glad to see that you got, at least temporarily, out of your writing funk. :)

    1. Yes! The puzzling over it. Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to place the person. But when you do, what a triumph! I think it's so cool that you and your sister do this, too. :)
(*chuckle* Yeah, that was a quick recovery, wasn't it? ;) I guess writing that post did the trick, because I was feeling a whole lot better the next day. We'll see how long it lasts...*wink* Thanks so much for caring, Rae!! :) That means a lot!)

  8. That sounds like a fun activity! I don't really notice people enough to spot doppelgangers, except if they look like other people I know, and when that happens I'm apparently the only one to think so;)

    1. Haha. Yeah, that happens for us sometimes, too. I, or one of my siblings, will say, "Hey! That person looks just like so-and-so?" and the rest of us will be like "WHAT? No he doesn't!" :D

(By the way, I'd never heard the word "doppelganger" before, so I looked it up to see what it means...and wow! This is cool! I just learned a new word!! ;D)

Thanks for your comment, Rose! :)

  9. Oh, all this was jolly good fun to read! :D I especially giggled at the idea of meeting Pancks... did he snort and everything? ;P

Haha, and Messala! Good GRACIOUS! I'd stay well away from that guy. ;D

I have often come across characters in real life (often not CLEARLY the same, they just look a good deal like them) but I can't think of ANY right now. Argh. (I tend to see actors who look like other actors, as well, or just people on TV in general.) I can think of ONE... I was going for a bike ride down our road a few months ago, and I was waiting for my sister (who was riding a horse) to catch up. I was in someone's drive way. It just HAPPENED that the owner was driving into it, as I was there, so I quickly had to get out of the way. The fellow driving the Ute (he would've been young - around 20, perhaps) gave me a wave and a smile. I kind of froze a little. He looked JUST like a particular character (/actor) from the TV series Arrow we were watching. :P So that was pretty cool... I had a fellow from the TV show I like living a few houses down the road from me!! Hehe. ;)

    1. Haha. Nope, he didn't snort. ;P But then we didn't actually talk to him so I can't actually say he doesn't snort. Heehee. ;)

I know, right? What was HE doing in our church?? I thought church was a supposed to be a safe place. Hahaha. ;)

Your sister was riding a HORSE?! That is SO cool!! Do you have your own horses, then? (Sorry, that was sort of beside the point, but I just had to comment on that. :)) The guy waved at you? Wow! That would freeze me a little, too--having a character from a movie suddenly pop out and wave at me. Haha. That's so fun. :D

Thanks for you comment, Miss Meg! I love hearing little stories from your life. :)

    2. Yep, my sister was riding a HORSE. (Haha, no worries! You like horses, then? ;)) We have two horses at our house that my two elder sisters own. They're crazy into horses, so yes... it's their Big Thing. (You know, like mine is literature/blogging/writing, theirs is horses!) We have lots of animals at our place (we live in the country, on a 600 acre plot, where our landlord/neighbour breeds cattle). :)
I know! He WAVED!! *swoons* (He was VERY good looking. :P) Haha, goodness, the way you worded that - "That would freeze me a little, too--having a character from a movie suddenly pop out and wave at me. Haha. That's so fun. :D" You're too funny. ;D

Thank you for YOUR comment (which I loved)! Aww, thanks, I love telling them, and I love hearing little stories from YOUR life. Sometimes the little stories are the best kinds of ones.

    3. Yes, well, I wouldn't call myself a horse fanatic or anything, but I always think it's really cool when I see someone riding a horse somewhere--just because you don't see that very often. We used to have friends who lived on a farm, with horses, and they used to ride to get their mail at the end of the lane. I always loved the thought of that--being able to jump on your horse whenever you wished and go for a little jaunt. :)

600 acres?? WOW. You really do live in the country then. We've never had many animals ourselves. A couple stray cats different times, but they never stayed around too long. ;)

Oh no. Don't tell me. He was VERY good looking? Goodness. I would so totally have frozen. (Probably blushed, too. Haha! ;P)

Aww, you're welcome! I love your comments, too!! And yes, the little stories are so much fun! :D

  10. Have you ever seen the movie "War Horse"? I was obsessed with it when it first came out (and still am) but I was at SAMs one day and the cashier boy looked like a character from War Horse! I told my sister and she thought so too...anyway, I loved this post! Feel weird for abruptly commenting on a random post for the first time, sorry about that =).

No, I've never actually seen "War Horse", but I've heard of it. That's so cool that you ran into one of the "characters" at SAMs! ;) Really, isn't it SO fun when that happens?

Aww, thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :) And honestly, you needn't feel weird for commenting on a random post. I loved hearing from you! Thanks for stopping by! :D

  11. Ha! I saw "Jack Thornton" in the title and... you got me. ;))

My brothers and I play this "game" aaaaaalll the time. People we see at church, at the store, in cars driving by us, students on the college campus, people in movies who look like people we know from real life, people in movies who look like people in OTHER movies...

I wish I could give some funny, specific examples... but I'm drawing a huge blank right now??? *cries*
