The Long Awaited, Entirely Forgotten, Ask Me Anything Answer Post // Part 3

Did I say I was hoping to get this post published sooner rather than later?  *cough*   Well, it has now been just over eight months since the second installment came out, and over a year since the original post was published (in which this whole ridiculous fiasco got started).  And, I don't know, I just have this feeling that, that ain't "sooner rather than later."  No.  That's just plain LATER.  Seriously, where HAS the time gone???  (Remind me never to do an Ask Me Anything post again because clearly I am not qualified to do it properly.)

Okay.  Let's get down to business.

The final questions are from Gabby (also known as Miss Meg), Elanor, Natalie, and Olivia.  Thank you so much for all the fun questions, girls!  And I'm SO sorry it's taken me this long to answer them.

1. What is your favourite thing to cook?

COOKIES!  Okay, technically that isn't cooking, that's baking.  But hey.  The first five letters in the word "cookie" are the same as the first five letters in the word "cooking."  I say it ought to count!

2. Do you have a hidden talent?

Yes I do.  Unfortunately it's so well hidden that nobody knows about it.  Not even me.

(SORRY!  But my mind goes blank on questions like this.  Really, sometimes I wonder if I actually have any talents.)

Oh wait!  I thought of one!  I'm an expert at scraping the icing bowl or the cookie dough bowl or any bowl with yummy sweet stuff in it.  I'm telling you, I can scrape that thing so clean you wouldn't believe!  You don't even have to wash it when I'm through with it.  (A slight exaggeration.)  (And yes, that was a disgusting joke.  I admit it.)

3. Can you tell us a funny story about yourself? (Perhaps an awkward but hilarious situation, or a funny thought you had during some circumstance. I don't know. If you can't think of anything, elaborate more on how you said no to that nice guy asking you out on a date, haha. ;D *laughs wickedly*)

Oh, that nice guy.  You mustn't mention him.  Really.  It's too painful a subject.  I broke his heart, Gabby.  Utterly and completely.  And I've felt so guilty about it ever since.  It's a hard thing being such a popular and irresistibly beautiful woman, it really is. *sob*

All right, I suppose what you really wanted was a true story.  Let me see.  I might be able to manage that.

Oh yeah!  How about the time I went into the bank and proved that being an employee in a customer service job can produce rather embarrassing situations outside of work.  Care to hear it?

Right.  So I was in the bank, and I was making my way up to the one teller who usually waits on me, but she happened to be looking at something on her computer and didn't see me.  *Awkward pause of uncertainty*  Off to my right was a second teller and I noticed he was just making a move as if to say he could help me.  I turned in his direction and the first words out of my mouth as I moved toward him were, "Can I help you?"  Uh.  No!  *slaps forehead*  This is what comes of waiting  on customers for an entire day and then going out into the world and trying to be a customer oneself!  I fumbled my way through the transaction and hoped vehemently that my usual gift for mumbling had come through on this one, and that the teller had simply failed to understand me.  It was a hope at any rate.

4. What is your middle name?

Ah yes.  My middle name.  Someone asked me this question earlier on in this series, but it's been such a long time since I answered it, you've probably all forgotten.  Allow me to remind you.  My middle name is Jean.  (Which is the same as my mother's middle name.  Cool, right?)

5. What is your favourite girls name?

Oh dear me!  I don't know.  Elizabeth is a nice name, I suppose.  At any rate, I've always liked how you can get so many nicknames out of it.  Liz, Lizzy, Liza, Eliza, Beth, Betsy, Betty, Bet, Bitty, Izzy, Ellie...I mean the possibilities are endless.

6. Would you ever dye your hair? What colour?

Ha!  No, I don't think I ever shall.  I'm not brave enough for that.  If I could dye it and change it back the next minute I might try it, but I have a feeling that isn't possible.  As to color though, I would actually like to see what I look like as a blonde, because that would be the biggest contrast, and would look utterly ridiculous!  (Maybe I should just try a wig sometime.  For laughs.)

7. Have you ever done archery?

No, I never have.  It would be cool to try though.

8. What were your favorite childhood books?

Aw!  I like this question.  I'm sure there are loads I could include, but I'll just show you a couple of my own personal books which are still special to me simply because they are mine.  And yes, I have very fond childhood memories of them, too.  :)

9. What's your favorite musical?

It depends on what mood I'm in.  I guess I've never been very good at narrowing things down to one single favorite.  Here's three that I like very much indeed.

Mary Poppins

The Happiest Millionaire

The Sound of Music
Have you seen these movies?

10. Have you seen the new Beauty and the Beast? What did you think?

Yes, I have.  I thought it was not so good as it could have been.  Sort of mediocre in my opinion.  I'm hoping to write a review on it sometime but (ahem) we'll see if that ever happens.

11. Brownies or chocolate cake?

Both!   I like to go at these sorts of things in a big way.  And besides, I prefer not to make hard, life-changing decisions if I can possibly avoid them.

12. Favorite flower?

You'll think me very dull and unromantic, but I really don't think about flowers all that much.  I mean, I like flowers.  They're pretty and sweet and all that, but a flower's a flower.  If they're pretty I like 'em.  And most of 'em are pretty so...

Too many decisions.  Too little time.

13. What comes to mind with the word 'bliss'?

This is actually rather funny.  The word "bliss" makes me think of my sister--back when we were younger and used to play games together.  Because we had this particular game where we would be different characters and write letters back and forth.  And there was a romantic couple in this game who used the word "bliss" quite frequently in their sappy love notes.  *grins*

14. Which of Cordy's dresses from The Happiest Millionaire would you like to own?

Believe it or not I don't really think about dresses from movies all that much, and I rarely pick one that I would like to own myself.  But since you ask...

This one isn't half bad.  The skirt looks like fun and the vest is cute.  I believe I could own this one with pleasure.

Also, Cordy's pink party dress.  Very pretty.  Yeah, I guess it might be a toss-up between those two.  (Actually what I really want is the blue shirt that the one girl is wearing in the first picture.  Isn't that super cute?  :))

15. Most recent book you read?

Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell.

16. Do you have a sibling inside-joke you could share with us? (There must be at least one you have so many siblings, after all. ;P)

Sure thing!

Okay, so over the past few years we've enjoyed coming up with code names for the TV shows we're currently watching.  Because it's just fun to be able to talk about one's plans for the evening in a very "subtle" fashion.  Makes one feel smart.  (Or something like that.)

For example:

The Dick Van Dyke Show became: DVD.  (Only that one wasn't the most clever because if we say, "DVD tonight?" people just might get the idea that we're talking about watching a movie.  And that's kinda not the idea we want people to get, you know?)

Gomer Pyle USMC became: GP, which then translated into "Grandpa" because we have a cousin who calls her grandpa "GP" so...associations, you know?  This one worked better because we could say "I need to see Grandpa this evening" or "How about a visit with Grandpa?"  (Which was SO subtle.  SO smart.)

The Donna Reed Show became: D.R. or Doctor.  (And we found quite suddenly that our health was ailing on a regular basis and that we had to make frequent trips to our physician.  Every night even.  They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but this was a case that went far beyond apples.  We were ailing and we were ailing bad.)

17. William Wilberforce or Mr. Knightley? (SORRRYYY)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??  WHAT KIND OF QUESTON IS THIS?!!  If I didn't know better I'd say you asked me this simply to get a reaction out of me.  (Well.  You got it.)

And no, I am not going to answer this.

And no, I am not going to forgive you either.  Be as sorry as you like.  You stepped over the line with this one, girl.  (Haha.)

18. Cordy already asked where you'd like to go on a date with that nice guy, so let me think of something different.....umm...where would you like to go on the SECOND date with that nice guy? ;P Haha.

To the church.  I think I'll just get married on my second date.  No point in drawing things out unnecessarily long.

Just kidding.  I think for my second date I'll have that nice guy over to my house for a nice quiet evening with my family.  (Only it won't really be quiet with so many younger siblings, but one can dream, right?)  Maybe we'll have a movie night or something.

19. Favorite hymn?

I like a lot of hymns, so I really can't choose a favorite.  But here's a good one.

Take My Hand, Precious Lord
by Thomas A. Dorsey
Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, help me stand
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on to the light,
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.
When my way grows drear, precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call.
Hold my hand lest I fall,
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

(I love singing this one at the piano.)

20. Would you like to visit a major city? If so, which one?

Eh.  Not in a huge way.  *shrugs*  Cities just don't tend to excite me.  But I guess if I have to choose one...maybe London?

21. If you could bring one fictional character to life for a day, which one?

Oooh.  This is a good question.  Tough.  But good.

(Now if only I could think of a good answer.)

Ah!  Got it.

BERTIE WOOSTER!!  (I mean, why not?  That would make for a very entertaining day!)

22. Would you rather live in Barton cottage or Pemberley?

Barton Cottage.  I'm pretty sure I would prefer living in a smaller, cozier house rather than an impressive mansion.  I'd  just feel more at home there, I think.

23. Favorite guilty snack?

Any sweet thing that happens to be available.  Really, I'm not that picky.  ;)

24. If someone gave you twenty dollars to spend on yourself, what would you buy?

At the moment?  Probably nothing.  More than likely it would just go into my savings.  (Happy bank account! ;))

25. Tea or coffee? Or neither?

Tea.  But not just any kind of tea.  I'm definitely picky about the flavor.  Some flavors are just...yick.  No good.

26. Do you have a dream wedding dress?

Uh, not really?  Leastways it's not something I can really describe.  Basically I'd want it to be simple and soft and flowy and...I guess I'll recognize it when I see it.

27. Does your entire family read your blog?

No.  (The poor dears.  How much they miss.  HA!)  There are a few who read it sporadically, but only one who reads every single post.  (And that would be my sister just above me in age who's an absolute darling when it comes to my blog.  I mean, she actually gives me awards sometimes when I write a post that she particularly likes.  :))

For instance, several of these little magnets appeared on my bed at different times, complete with a  note congratulating me on a particular post I'd just written.  Such a sweet surprise.

Aren't they cute?  Sister definitely knows my style.  :)

28. Do any of your other siblings want a blog, too?

My sixteen-year-old brother might.  He's made comments about it several times anyway.  Not sure most of you would be thrilled about his choice of subject though, unless of course you're an enthusiast for chickens.  (My brother loves chickens.  Yeah. I don't understand it either.  ;))

29.  If there was just one movie you would like to make sure a friend watched, what would it be?

Amazing Grace.  That movie is just about perfect in my estimation.  Good acting. Good storyline.  Inspiring.  Entertaining.  Thought-provoking.  Goo-oo-ood.

30.  Do you like coffee?

Nope.  Never tried it.  Never mean to.

31.  Do you like long car trips?

Sometimes, yes.  It depends.  I like being able to sit in the car for a long time listening to music and watching the scenery fly past.  It does however get a little tiring when you're really wanting to be at your destination and the hours are stretching out longer and longer and all the naps you take aren't shortening the journey at all.

32.  What is your favorite TV series?

My favorite TV series?  Ugh.  That's hard.  I guess it's going to have to be a toss up between All Creatures Great and Small, The Donna Reed Show, and The Dick Van Dyke Show.  (Don't ask me to narrow it down any more than that.)  (And in fact, if you were to ask me again I might find myself adding to the list so...let's leave it at that.)

33.  What is one TV series you really want to try?

Hmmm.  I wouldn't mind trying Call the Midwife sometime, though it's not like I'm dying to see it or anything.  Also The Waltons.  I've seen a few episodes of that, but not a lot.   Oh, and yeah.  The Courtship of Eddie's Father (because...Bill Bixby.  :)).  Sadly, that one's hard to get one's hands on though.

34.  Do you ever become 'obsessed' with a movie trailer for a while? (Someone asked this in a group I was in recently and it kind of stuck with me, because I certainly do ;))

Nope.  Never have.  Not so far as I can remember anyway.

35.  Would you have "fun" as a secretary, do you think? Or not so much?

I've actually thought for quite a while that secretary work might be very well suited to me.  I like organizing papers and click-clicking things on the computer in a professional sort of way, but I can't really say whether I would actually enjoy it or not until I get some real experience with it.  Secretary jobs can be vastly different depending on what you're secretarying.  (Yes, I know that's not a word.)

*****

Well, look at that!  It appears I've finally made it to the end of the longest, most drawn-out, Ask Me Anything post series ever!

And everybody said...

"It's about time!"

(I couldn't agree more!)

Edit:  Ugh.  NO!  After publishing this, I realized that there's extra space between some of the lines.  (You don't know how much that bugs me. )  Unfortunately, I haven't time to fix it right now so forgive me if I simply allow my perfectionistic nature to indulge in one long cry of pain...AAAHHHHHHHH!  (Thanks.  I needed that.  ;))

  1. I loved reading this! I know I've said it before but you are such a good and entertaining writer!
If you ask me, cooking is the umbrella term for cooking and baking...basically "kitchening", so cookies definitely count. :)
And you DO have lots of talents I'm sure, but one that's not so hidden is your writing. But still, scraping the bottom of the cookie dough bowl is an important skill! Waste not, want not! :P
I really like that hymn too; it's such a nice one to sing out.
And I heartily approve of Amazing Grace as a must-see. It's not just lovely, I think it's important too.
Good to have you back Miss March!

    1. ABBY!!!! *tackle hugs* It's so good to hear from you!! :) And aww! Thank you! To be called an entertaining writer...man, that makes my day!! :D

Cooking as an umbrella term! I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's a good point. I like that.

Awwwww! *blushes* Thank you, Abby. :) "Waste not, want no!" Exactly!! And wasting cookie dough would be particuarly inexcuseable. ;)

      It is!

Yes! TRUE! It has such a powerful message.

      Thank you! :D

  3. Awwwwwww . . . YOU HAVE TALENTS, MISS MARCH!

Like writing witty answers to Ask Me Anything questions, apparently. ;D (Even if they're late . . . ;) Heehee, no, really, that sounds like something I would do.)

Haha, the answer for #3. xD

Oh, I share my mom's middle name, too!

"Both! I like to go at these sorts of things in a big way. And besides, I prefer not to make hard, life-changing decisions if I can possibly avoid them." *snort* DITTO, KIDDO.

Ooh, you and your siblings are clever. ;D "I need to visit with Grandpa." Hehe. ;)

    Bertie Wooster!! Yasss!

Wow, you're so responsible. I'd spend the $20 if someone gave it to me to spend, heh.

We're of "one mind" with regards to Barton vs. Pemberley. :)

Awwww, your sister sounds so sweet!!!

    Amazing Grace. *nods* A++.

We're also in agreement about #31.

And #35! "I've actually thought for quite a while that secretary work might be very well suited to me. I like organizing papers and click-clicking things on the computer in a professional sort of way" << GIRL, SAME! Like, literally. Perfectly put, m'dear. :D

Loved reading these answers, Miss March! Thanks for sharing! :D <3

    1. Aw, thanks. I guess all my hard work at trying to be funny has not been in vain then. ;) (Yeah, because you and I...we know the meaning of the word "procrastinate," don't we? Haha. ;))

You share your mom's middle name, too? Wow! High five, girl. That is so cool! :)

"DITTO, KIDDO." Hahaha. That so made me smile. :D I'm going to have to use that one sometime. ;)

Why thank you! *bows* We do our best. ;)

Well, I don't know if it's responsibility so much as simply a lack of ideas for things to buy...or lack of energy to go out and buy them...haha. ;)

*grins* Why does that not surprise me?

She is! She really is!!! :D

      Yes indeed. A++++

      35. SERIOUSLY?!! Like I knew we were alike, but this is...wow. I wonder if either of us will ever find ourselves in such a job. :)

Thank you so much for your comment! It brought a smile to my face. :D

  4. Wow, this is a long post. :D Deliciously long! (I love that first picture too, haha. xD)

I'm sure you have some talents! And indeed that is an excellent skill to have - scraping the bowl. I seem to have a knack for doing that, too. ;)

Haha, that story at the bank! "Can I help you?" Hehe. Well, what a polite thing to say. ;D (That sounds like something I'd do though, haha!)

AHH I LOVE THE BOOK BLUEBERRIES FOR SAL!!! That was one of MY favourite childhood books too!!! :D :D :D ("Plink, plunk, plonk"...)

Your brother loves chickens. Haha. :P

I love your answer to that secretary question. ;) I think I would enjoy that click-clicking on the computer in a professional sort of way, haha. ;D

    Excellent post, m'dear!
(And don't worry about the spaces - I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out. ;))

    1. Well, you have to admit, it's not entirely my fault. You girls asked a lot of questions! It was bound to be a long post. (Heehee. ;))

You like to scrape the bowl, too? Oh my, Gabby. We are so alike. :)

      :D

YOU'VE READ BLUEBERRIES FOR SAL??!! REALLY? That is so cool!! :D I love that book.

Yes, he does. Very much in fact. ;)

Haha. Oh, I'm sure you would! Because clicking things in a professional sort of way it just so much fun, isn't that right?

Aw, thanks! I'm glad you liked it. :)
(And yay. At least it wasn't as noticeable to other people as it was to me. That's a plus. :))

  5. Oh, Miss March. How I enjoyed reading this. You are the most amusing, clever, and entertaining person. Not to mention darling.

"Oh, that nice guy. You mustn't mention him. Really. It's too painful a subject. I broke his heart, Gabby. Utterly and completely. And I've felt so guilty about it ever since. It's a hard thing being such a popular and irresistibly beautiful woman, it really is. *sob* "

That--that was beautiful. So tragic, and how could you? But truly that paragraph is a work of art and I found it dreadfully amusing. Miss March, Miss March, how do you do it?

(Again with the other question about the nice guy. You are too hilarious. I adore it.)

    But that true story! Yikes!

    I loved Blueberries for Sal!

I've seen Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music of course, but I confess I haven't seen The Happiest Millionaire. It's going on my to-watch list...with Amazing Grace, which I have out from the library and after hearing you say that about it I simply must watch it now!

*whispers* Who is William Wilberforce and what movie must I now go watch to see a man who is not to be chosen between from Mr. Knightley for fear of invoking Miss March's wrath? (Goodness gracious, that grammar and sentence structure has got to be flawed but...Hopefully you understand? After reading it six times maybe?)

    Beautiful hymn!

LOVED READING THIS! All of it. You're a dear.

    1. Aww. Don't. You're giving me a swelled head. ;P Seriously though, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. That makes my day! :D And I thoroughly and completely enjoyed your comment!! THANK YOU!!

A work of art? Really? And dreadfully amusing, too? Wow. You don't know how much encouragement you're giving me right now. I've been in a semi-writing funk for a while so it's great to know I haven't completely lost my ability for writing. Thanks, dear! :)

You've read Blueberries for Sal? Awww. Isn't it such a cute book though?

Yes, yes! You must watch The Happiest Millionaire. It's such a fun movie! Be sure to tell me what you think of it once you've seen it! :) Wait. WHAAAAAT? YOU'VE NEVER SEEN AMAZING GRACE???!! RAE! What have you been doing all your life??? Go watch it this minute! (Haha. ;))

*chuckles* Watch Amazing Grace and you'll find out! ;) (Flawed or not, I totally understood what you were saying. Great minds think a like, you know. And who needs proper grammar anyway? ;))

      :)

      Aww, thanks!! :)
