When one's mind is a blank...

...and one's body is exhausted...and stringing words together has become a hugely overwhelming task.

What can one do about blogging?

Well...

How about fiddling around with making new headers, taking enormous amounts of time to rearrange one's sidebar, and writing snippity-ippity little posts like this one?

At least it feels like one is accomplishing something...

And now!  The new header!

Tell me.  What do you think?  And what are your thoughts on the new layout in general?  I wanted a more springy/summery look, and was inspired by the colorfulness of both Natalie's and Cordy's blogs, so I went for a sort of rainbow conglomeration.  But, oh!  I don't know.  Is it too much color, do you think?  I'm not sure I'm entirely satisfied with it.  (Dear, dear.  What a pickle.)  Well, at any rate, I suppose it will have to do for now, because I really haven't the time to mess with it anymore.  ;)

So long, everyone!

  1. LOVE. IT. It's absolutely gorgeous! You did a fabulous job.
I actually feel the same way about blogging right now...I just can't. I may have to go a few more days until my mind is my own again. :)
Really, the whole look is perfect, in my humble opinion. Perfect for summer!

  3. Goodness I know all about blank minds... I've had really late nights the last couple of nights (past midnight kinds) and that will be tonight (we're going to a bush dance and I can't quite imagine getting into bed before midnight), and I have a long letter to respond to and 3 emails and limited time and... *yawn* I just want to be in bed. :P

AH YES YES YES YES YES!!!! I LOVE it! :) It's BEAUTIFUL. It makes me want to watch Emma again, and it makes me home sick for spring. (Goodness me, all this nostalgia...) And I smiled as I read through your sidebar - it's most entertaining, and I love the pictures you used. (Especially the one from Pollyanna - *chuckles*) I <3 it.

Now I'm off to do some writing...

Awww. THANK YOU!! I'm so glad you like it. That makes me happy, happy!! :D I'm also pleased you enjoyed my sidebar, because I had a lot of fun putting that together. :) (Yeah, isn't that Pollyanna picture great? I like that one a lot, too.)

      Good luck with your writing!

(And I probably told you this before, but your comments are SUCH a delight! Thank you so much, my friend!)

  5. It's absolutely beautiful. I love the header and the background, and I love how at first glance the colors are different, but soon your eyes start matching the golds and tans. And it's not too much color; it's perfectly summery! :)

  8. Recognized the actress from Amazing Grace right away (if you haven't seen that movie, I cannot recommend it highly enough, btw), but haven't seen her play Emma yet. Something I definitely need to get on...

    1. Ohhh! I LOVE Amazing Grace! That is one of my very favorite movies! :D And yes, you really should see Emma sometime. It's an excellent movie, and one of the best Jane Austen adaptions I've seen. :)

    2. Nice to meet another fan! It's one of my favorites as well.

I will definitely have to check it out then! I have been working on watching the different variations of Pride and Prejudice to see which one is my favorite (so far the 2005 version by Joe Wright, in case you were wondering) and while I was at it, I decided to do the different versions of Little Women (I love the version with Christian Bale...), so I'll have to do all the different adaptations of Emma next.:)

The only one I've seen is the one with Gwyneth Paltrow. Have you seen that one? (If so) what did you think of it? How does it compare to the one with (I don't know her name) from Amazing Grace?

      Delete
    3. Oh, fun! I love watching different versions of the same story. I've seen the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, but the 1995 is my favorite. I grew up on it, so it's always been a part of my life. As to Little Women we own the version with Christian Bale, as well as the 1949 version starring June Allyson. I like both of them alright, but I'm still not totally satisfied with either, because I'd really like to find one the follows the book better. (I can be a bit of a book purist sometimes, especially when it comes to books I REALLY like. :))

Yep. I've seen that one. That was the third one I watched. What did I think of it? Weeelll...I didn't really like it. At that point I'd seen two other versions and I was still looking for the one that would accurately bring the book to life for me. The Gywneth Paltrow film was just too short. I didn't feel like the story was properly developed, and I didn't like all the casting either as they didn't fit with my imagination of the characters. (I can be very picky about these sorts of things. ;)) However, when I saw the 2009 version, I was like, "Yes! This is it! Now we're getting the real story." What did you think of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie? I know some people really like that one.

    4. Yeah, it should be interesting!

I wasn't completely satisfied with the version with Christian Bale, either... it can be tough, trying to not obsess too much when the movie is not identical to the book, but on the other hand, not being okay with filmmakers TOTALLY twisting the story, either.

In particular, it bothered me that Professor Bhaer was so young and handsome (totally contradicting the book...) and that he and Jo were in a romantic relationship while she was living in New York. It made Jo seem like something she was not, in my opinion. Book-Jo wouldn't have done that, I don't think.

When I was little, I always thought of it as boring and it definitely isn't my favorite movie or anything, but I have come to like it better over the years. I hope I like the Romola Garai version, because I love her so much in Amazing Grace. Gywneth Paltrow does make a great Emma, I must say - she is very spoiled and silly. :)

    5. That's true. There's certainly a balance between being loyal to the book, and just being plain picky. ;)

Seriously? Oh! I'm SO glad to find someone else who feels the same way about Professor Bhaer and Jo in that movie. Their romance drives me nuts, because it's just WAY too romantic. Kissing?? I don't think so. And yes, Professor Bhaer is way too young and "handsome". (Actually, I don't think he's all that handsome, but that's just my personal opinion. :P I really don't like him in that movie. He's SO much better in the book.)

I think you really will like the Romola Garai version...at any rate, I hope you will. :) It has some wonderful scenes with Mr. Knightley and Emma. I can't really remember what Emma was like in the Gwyneth Paltrow movie. I need to see it again and refresh my memory. :) By the way, have you ever read the book?

      Delete
    6. I know, right? It's crazy. :)

Weeelll, not "handsome" exactly... but, not ugly, you know? Like in the book it was pretty obvious that he wasn't desirable in, like, any way imaginable. Jo basically came right out and said that he was ugly - she couldn't find anything about his looks to compliment, except his teeth. So I'd say he wasn't too hot.

I didn't think the guy in the movie was awful looking, by any means. And he was like all charming and, oh I don't know - but not the guy with broken English and peculiarities that the book describes!

      I hope so, too!!!

Yeah, last summer was my first time. I always rather read the book before watching the movie, but unfortunately, that was not possible in this case, so I kind of "saw" the movie in my head as I read the book. After a couple of readings, though, that usually fades - I start to notice differences and the book-characters establish their own distinct personalities in my mind. :)

      Delete
    7. Very true. You're right. The guy in the movie certainly isn't ugly. He may not be my kind of handsome, but he's obviously supposed to be good-looking, whereas, like you said, Professor Bhaer in the book clearly isn't. Haha. Yes, charming. That's what I really dislike about him. He's so charming it's kind of obnoxious. :P

That's sort of how it was for me, too. I had just started reading the book when we got an old movie of Emma from the library, so I had the characters from that movie in my head as I finished the book. But oh! You're so right! Book-characters really do have a way of "establishing their own distinct personalities", apart from the characters in the movie. (I like how you put that, by the way. ;))

    8. Haha, thank you! It always gives me a nice glow of satisfaction when words come together so nicely. :)

I find that if I can keep characters in books and their movie-counterparts separate and distinct in my mind, it is easier for me not to get frustrated when they are not identical. It's easier for me to accept, because I don't view them as the same person, really. I think of them as book-Jo and movie-Jo, you know? And then if the movie doesn't do a perfect job, it's okay, because movie-Jo is an entirely different person - who I can learn to like for her own unique personality and set of quirks.

Though, that example wasn't all that great, because I LOVED Jo from that version - I thought the actress really nailed it. Also, LOVE Christian Bale as Laurie. :)

      Delete
    9. That's a good philosophy. At least that way you can enjoy both the movie and the book. Haha. I guess I could use some help in that area. ;) Though at the same time, I have to admit, I rather enjoy pointing out all the things the movies do wrong. It makes me feel smart to act like I'm an authority on how the story should be told because "I read the book" Hahaha. ;)

I like Christian Bale as Laurie, too, for the most part. Though, of course, the way my mind works I can see a lot of room for improvement, as well. As to Jo. Weelll...I'm sorry to say she rather irks me. She just seems too much like a movie-star. Do you know what I mean? (Haha. Yes, I know. I'm ridiculously picky, aren't I?)

  9. Such a pretty new look!!
But then again, I would never complain about a header that contains one of my favourite period dramas.:) Just looking at it makes me want to watch Emma again

I know the struggle with mind blankness! I have currently so many ideas for posts I wanna write, but just the thought of actually doing it makes me lose the ability to put words together;)

Haha! I know, right? How can you complain about anything that has to do with that movie? ;) I love Emma!!

Yes, yes, yes!! That's EXACTLY how I feel. It's like there's too many ideas...and the enormity of the task just makes me clam up. What I need to do is just step back, take a breath, and focus on one task at a time--instead of looking at EVERYTHING, and getting overwhelmed by it. :)

    1. I'm glad you think the background and header go well together. Actually, it's kind of funny, because originally I made the header to match a different background, but then when I put it together on the blog it didn't look right, so I had to go searching for a new one. As it turned out, I like this background a lot better than the first one. :)

Oh, I'm so glad, because I didn't want to be annoying by copying you or anything, but I really did like how you used all the different colors! :D
